As a Danish illustrator and actress based in Copenhagen, I often split my time between film work, voice recordings, writing, and drawing. Like many creative people in the city, I don’t always work from home. Some of my best ideas have started at a small café table.
Copenhagen has a long tradition of café culture — quiet rooms where people read, sketch, write, or simply watch the city move past the window. After living in cities like Vancouver, London, and Los Angeles, I’ve come to appreciate the particular rhythm of Copenhagen cafés: calm, welcoming, and often surprisingly good places to concentrate.
Personally, I’m often drawn to quieter spaces like museum cafés or older institutions. But when it comes to places where you can comfortably sit with a laptop, notebook, or sketchbook for a few hours, these cafés are among the ones I return to most often.
These are ten cafés in Copenhagen where I’ve worked between auditions, writing sessions, and

Best Work-Friendly Cafés in Copenhagen (My Local Picks)
The Living Room Cushioned chairs, low lighting, and a cozy basement atmosphere. This is often where I go when I want to disappear into writing for a while. Larsbjørnsstræde 17 – @thelivingroomcph
Mad & Kaffe
Bright, social, and good food. Sønder Boulevard 68 – @madogkaffe
Democratic Coffee
Minimalist, focused energy and excellent pastries. A good stop when you need a short, productive work session. Godthåbsvej 34B – @democraticcoffeecph
Coffee Collective
One of Copenhagen’s best-known coffee roasters. Clean design, lovely staff, and just enough background noise to help you concentrate. @coffeecollectif
Risteriet
A staple in the Copenhagen cafe scene. A nice variety and a rotating cast of freelancers and students working quietly at nearby tables. @risteriet_coffee
Kaffestuen
Warm and unpretentious. You’ll often see locals here reading, sketching, or simply thinking. One of the places where I occasionally sit with a notebook or sketchbook. Studiestræde 21 – @kaffestuen
Atelier September
Beautifully minimal and quietly artistic. A place where stylists, art students, and writers often linger longer than planned. Gothersgade 30 – @atelierseptember
Café Glyptoteket
A lovely museum café with a garden view. I sometimes stop here after visiting exhibitions or seeing a film at the nearby Cinemateket. Dantes Plads 7 – @cafeglyptoteket
Café Staalvand
Eclectic and a slightly vintage atmosphere. A nice breakfast and a relaxed place to sit with a laptop for a while. Brønshøjvej 6 – @staalvand
The Laundromat Café
Colorful, casual, and full of character. A good choice if you prefer a less “silent” workspace with a bit of background energy. Elmegade 15 – @thelaundromatcafe
A warm drink, quiet, and a corner table — my kind of workspace in Copenhagen.
Copenhagen is full of spaces like these, where work and daily life quietly blur together over coffee, soft background sounds, and time to think. Whether you're editing a draft, sketching an idea, studying, or simply watching the city move outside the window, there is no shortage of inviting corners.
Working From Cafés in Copenhagen
Copenhagen is one of the easier cities in Europe to work from cafés. Many places are welcoming to freelancers, writers, and creatives who want to spend a few hours working quietly with a laptop or notebook.
For me, cafés are often small creative checkpoints throughout the week — places to write, read and sit for a while, sketchbook in hand.
